Help Keep a Woman on the USC Board of Trustees

Daughters -- There are only three women on the 22-member USC Board of Trustees and one of them is in danger of losing her seat to a man who is running against her. Leah Moody, an attorney from Rock Hill, was appointed to the board by the governor, but now must run for re-election. Please contact your legislator and tell him or her that women need fair representation on the USC Board. After all, half the state's population is women and nearly 60% of USC students are women. Let's rally behind Leah Moody and keep at least three women on this important board which should really be half women! Linda Bilanchone

As a graduate of USC's IMBA grad program, I care a great deal about their direction as a school, and as a former female student. I would not have known anything about this without your post - so thank you for bringing it to my attention. I've emailed several of the legislators whom I know personally. Hopefully Leah will retain her seat as a board member. Let me know if there is more to be done.

Another thing to point out is that aside from USC Columbia students being 60% women, the majority of enrollment at the other USC campuses (hint:UPSTATE being one of them) is also higher percentage female. This is a nationwide trend too.

Leah Moody's candidacy for the board will have to be voted on by the state legislature and that will probably happen April 14.

Thanks for alerting us, Linda. How does it work? She will have to be re-elected by the State Legislature?
