To remember how long it took for women to get the vote and to know that originally equal rights for women was put into federal legislation as a joke - well I celebrate all the women and men who worked for decades so we could flourish today.

So glad you beat me to this, Rebecca! :) How many other states were like SC and were late to support women's suffrage, I wonder? Am realizing that I'm not really sure ... anybody know?

TODAY: August 18, 1920 : Women's Suffrage Amendment Ratified

Today is the anniversary of Tennessee ratifying the 19th Amendment. It was the 36th state to do so, giving the necessary 2/3 vote necessary for the amendment to become law.  Women were able to vote for the first time in the 1920 presidential elections.The South Carolina General Assembly rejected the amendment 93-21 in the House and 32-3 in the Senate.
