Not sure, really. Over the past three years I have instituted awards for Outstanding Minor in Women's and Gender Studies and for Outstanding Major in Interdisciplinary Studies with a WGS focus. Last spring I named the awards after two key feminist activists - Lucy Stone and Emma Goldman - and the awards were certificates plus a book selected to support the winners' scholarly research areas. The awards both recognized outstanding academic achievement and went to students who did well in class but also went beyond class to present papers at academic conferences. I've been thinking about adding some awards this year - something to recognize significant African-American community outreach (the Audre Lorde award, perhaps), and now I'd like to think towards a Susan B. Anthony award of some kind. Any ideas on focus, criteria, or nature of the award? It could go to a student doing significant work in grassroots political advocacy for women's and gender-related issues. I wonder if Daughters of Susan B. Anthony would want to sponsor the award. Even a small cash prize is so deeply appreciated by our students. Let me know what you think.

Celia, thank you so much for being, as Susu put it, "the heart and soul that pumps the blood through the Daughters of Susan B." We love you!
